John Speller first got interested in pipe organs when he was at school in England, where there was a 250 year old pipe organ in the school chapel.  After completing undergraduate degrees at Bristol University, and a Doctorate at Oxford, he came to the United States in 1982 where he first worked as a special collections librarian.  In 1984 he made his avocation into his vocation and went to work for the organ building firm of James R. McFarland & Co., of Millersville, Pennsylvania.  After moving to Columbia Organ Works of Columbia, Pennsylvania in 1987 where he was for some years a Director, he moved to Missouri in 1993 and has been with Quimby Pipe Organs since then.  He specializes in historical renovation work and has an extensive knowledge of historic organs.  An active member of the Organ Historical Society, a number of his articles have appeared in the Society's journal, The Tracker.  His articles have also appeared in Musical Opinion, The Organ, Choir and Organ, The Diapason, The American Organist, and BIOS Journal.
